Report by Older People’s Housing Taskforce published – at last!
Government today published the report and recommendations of an independent ‘taskforce’, convened by the previous government, to look at options for the provision of greater choice, quality and security of housing for older people.

Although the new Government has yet to commit to supporting the implementation of the report's recommendations, their decision to publish is very welcome, illustrating the degree of cross-party support for action. Equally important is that two Government departments co-sponsored and supported the Taskforce’s work – MHCLG and DHSC.

Announcing the move Matthew Pennycook, Minister of State for Housing and Planning, said: “The Government recognises the importance of increased supply and improving the housing options for older people in later life, and we will give careful consideration to the many recommendations set out in the report."

The report is a landmark publication, and will reward reading in full. As illustration it finds that “There is a clear need for accessible, impartial and good quality information, advice and advocacy (IA&A) for senior citizens, their families and carers to ensure they understand the range of housing options available to them, can appraise these against their own priorities and can pursue their preferred solutions – with help, if needed”. In response it recommends the establishment of “a national information platform and local hubs”
